Wild Ramp Forage & Harvest
Sunday, April 26th | 1:00 PM
Service Description
Spring has a smell โ and if you've ever caught a whiff of wild ramps pushing up through the leaf litter, you know exactly what we mean. Join us at Spirit of the Woods Conservation Club for a Forest School afternoon dedicated to one of the season's most beloved wild edibles: the ramp. We'll head out together to forage, learn, and harvest โ practicing the art of ethical wildcrafting while deepening our connection to the land and what it offers us this time of year. What to Expect: ๐ฟ Ramp Identification & Foraging Learn to identify wild ramps with confidence โ their broad leaves, distinctive smell, and the habitats they love. We'll talk about what to look for, what to avoid confusing them with, and how to harvest responsibly so the patch thrives for years to come. ๐ฑ Ethical Wildcrafting & Leave No Trace Harvesting Foraging is a practice, not just an activity. We'll talk about the ethics of wildcrafting โ how much to take, how to harvest in a way that gives the plant population room to regenerate, and how indigenous and traditional communities have tended wild foods for generations. ๐ Nature Journaling Sketch, smell, observe. Kids and adults alike will have time to document their finds โ ramp anatomy, habitat notes, and anything else the forest offers up on the walk. ๐ Tasting & Using What We Find Ramps are delicious โ garlicky, bright, and entirely wild. We'll talk about ways to use your harvest at home, from eating them fresh to preserving them through the season. What to Bring: A small bag or basket for harvesting ยท sturdy boots ยท weather-appropriate layers ยท nature journal & pencil ยท water bottle ยท a sense of adventure and a good nose
